Do you call this cheating?
Is flirting on the internet, with a stranger or even someone you know, considered infidelity? Or does the thought itself of being unfaithful already constitute infidelity?
Definitions:
Fidelity, n.
- The quality of being faithful
- Faithfulness to obligations, duties, or observances.
- Faithfulness; adherence to right; careful and exact observance of duty, or discharge of obligations. Especially: (a) Adherence to a person or party to which one is bound; loyalty.
Infidelity, n.
- The quality of being unfaithful
- Breach of trust; unfaithfulness to a charge, or to moral obligation; treachery; deceit; as, the infidelity of a servant
Different people have different views toward what is considered infidelity or not. I recall reading somewhere that even the thought, of finding someone new becasue your partner is boring, is considered cheating because you've basically reneged on your moral obligation to your partner.
It's a thin line really.
But before you're tempted to discard it as hogwash, think about it this way: How will you feel if you realise that your partner has been thinking about finding someone new instead of trying to improve relations between you two? Or spending more time talking and getting close to someone he/she calls a friend instead of with you?
I'm sure you'll feel a little hurt and disappointed if you care for your partner.
Sleep on this one and let me know what you think.
